Micael Durán, AIA

Micael Durán is a licensed architect based in New York, with experience practicing in Shanghai, New York, Los Angeles, and Dallas. His work spans hospitality, mixed-use development, multifamily housing, adaptive reuse, interiors, and private residential projects, with a focus on design clarity, technical coordination, and the translation of complex project requirements into built form.

He is currently a Senior Project Architect at Guerin Glass Architects , where he is leading coordination efforts for Chalet Alpina, a major hospitality and mixed-use development at the base of Aspen Mountain. Formerly known as Lift One Lodge, the project is part of the broader redevelopment of Aspen’s Lift One corridor and includes a luxury hotel, residences, restaurants, retail, rooftop amenities, underground parking, and a new ski lift positioned closer to downtown Aspen. The overall project represents one of the most significant investments in Aspen’s west mountain base area in decades.

His recent work also includes leading the development of a 500,000-square-foot condo hotel in Waikiki, Hawaii, contributing to large-scale residential renovations in New York City, and helping secure an international competition win for ICON 99, a 3D-printed housing initiative selected from more than 5,000 submissions across over 60 countries.

Over the course of his career, Micael has worked on projects ranging from new construction multifamily developments and large-scale office interiors to boutique hospitality, condominium renovations, townhouse additions, and design-driven residential work. Previous employers include Magdalena Keck Inc, Greg Lynn FORM, INABA, MADA s.p.a.m., and KBA.

Micael holds a Master of Architecture from Cornell University, where he received a thesis grant for his research on Hong Kong, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sculpture with a minor in Computer Science from the University of Dallas. He studied abroad in Mexico, France, and Italy, and has exhibited sculptural and installation-based work in galleries. His architectural practice is informed by a long-standing interest in structure, proportion, materiality, and the relationship between digital processes and physical form.
