ICON 99
Austin, TX, US
Guerin Glass Architects was selected as a winning entry in the ICON 99 Competition, an international design challenge that drew more than 5,000 submissions from over 60 countries to address the urgent need for dignified, resilient housing solutions for the unhoused through innovative 3D-printed construction. GGA’s proposal explored small-scale living through a duplex prototype that balances affordability, independence, and community connection. Six sculptural curvilinear volumes are arranged around shared gardens, their textured forms inspired by Native American weaving and beadwork traditions. Within, a central millwork wall organizes living, sleeping, and bathing zones, serving both as a functional core and a canvas for personal expression through color and finish.
Micael directed the BIM development, translating the design into a precise digital framework that balanced ambition with technical rigor.
